Students will learn classroom material vocabulary. By completing different activities and answering some questions, students will take part in an online scavenger hunt to learn new vocabulary.
Target Age: 6-7 years old
Target Language Level: A1 level
Location: indoors (the school's building)
Reception: reading the questions and following the steps.
Production: students take a test (Quizziz).
Interaction: students help each other and they do the activity collaboratively.
Students will be able to:
Practice classroom material vocabulary in an online scavenger hunt scenario.
Understand the activity's questions and follow the instructions.
Prove the acquisition of knowledge through the different activities and the final test.
Before the app task session, the teacher should:
Create accounts in Actionbound (10 minutes)
Create an interactive Scavenger Hunt with different activities (1-2 hours)
Introduce the target vocabulary to students (1 hour)
Explain what Actionbound is and how it works (15-30 minutes)
Demonstrate an activity using a Actionbound (10-15 minutes)
Prepare digital devices for each group (5-10 minutes)
Create the QR for students to access (5 min)

Handouts:
Scaffolding guide on how to peer assess (sentence starters).
Glossary with classroom material vocabulary.
Equipment: Students need a tablet/phone, a device that allows them to download the app.
Pre-task:
Session 1 (60 minutes): The teacher teaches classroom material vocabulary so they can more easily interact with Actionbound in Session 3. What’s more, they explain that the goal of this learning situation is to become familiar with what is around them.
Session 2 (60 minutes): The teacher teaches how to use Actionbound to the students and do a demonstration on how to interact with it. They also explain that the students will play with Actionbound in the following session to practice the vocabulary in a real context because, after that, students take a test. Finally, the teacher reviews the vocabulary that was presented in the previous lesson.
Main task:
Session 3 (60 minutes): Students work in groups of 3-4 with one device per group. They scan the QR code to access the Actionbound scavenger hunt and complete different activities around the school building: scanning QR codes to discover classroom objects, taking photos of specific materials, answering multiple-choice questions about vocabulary, and recording audio pronunciations. The teacher monitors progress, provides technical support, and observes vocabulary difficulties. At the end, groups return to class and share their experience while the teacher shows the leaderboard.
Post-task:
Session 4 (60 minutes): Students take an individual Quizizz test (20-25 minutes) to demonstrate vocabulary acquisition. After the test, they complete the self-assessment worksheet with sentence starters reflecting on their learning and feelings. Students then share their reflections in pairs using the scaffolding guide. Finally, students create a "My Classroom" poster labeling 8-10 classroom materials using images/drawings and the vocabulary learned. The teacher reviews key vocabulary using TPR and collects worksheets and posters.
