Rihanna
9" x 7"
Graphite Pencil & White Charcoal Pencil
The goal of this project was to focus on light and contrast with graphite materials. I chose to draw my friend, Rihanna, as she was next to me. I incorporated her physical features as well as her stern and focused expression as she worked on her own piece of artwork.
For materials, I used graphite as it is a material I am more familiar with. I used 2h and b for sketching and hair texture, and used 4b and 6b to add more contrast and fill dark spaces. For the background, I used a white charcoal pencil to add even more contrast to Rihanna's hair and clothing.
Overall this drawing shows big improvements compared to my past graphite drawings, my biggest issue with this that I can takeaway is to create a lot lighter lines if I use the grid lines. On the other hand the texture and contrast is a something that I think I have improved and this project will help me in future projects.
