Fabric, Hotglue, and Thread
For this project, we experimented with fabrics and created our own story and scene with different colors and shapes of fabrics. I chose to create a waterfall scene with mostly blues, greens, and browns. My main goals were to create a visible scene and to keep my work from getting too busy.
For this project I stuck to only fabric for my entire project even the background, and for adhesive, I mostly used my sewing machine and thread to attach each piece and create texture but for the sky and some of the greens were attached with a hot glue gun by hot glue.
I enjoyed exploring a completely new type of material. I have worked with fabric in the past with sewing clothes or designing but not in this aspect. There is a lot of things I struggled with, especially adding highlights and contrast. I tried to work in layers, especially with my plants as in a forest trees and greens are what are most layered in nature and I accomplished this partially well, but the water and waterfall are quite flat. I am going to go back and add detail and layers to the water but also highlights and lighter greens and blues to push a contrast even though it might not be super evident. I am worried about making this piece too busy and that is why I tried to only have my main objects stand out with different prints, but in the meantime, the piece seems almost messy and very cartoony. I would like to add more to the clouds and clean up my edges so that even if it is a little cartoony then my goal of keeping the piece not too busy will show. I am very proud of the green and the texture though, I enjoyed adding shredded fabric and small pieces to make the plants and grass stand out against their background and I am proud of my work in this sense.
