Oil Pastels, Music sheets, and Tracing Paper on Paper
For this project I am starting my investigation into the question "how did the influence of music shape my childhood?" More specifically I am looking into piano and the music sheets from my childhood and how they impacted my growing up. I am really trying to show how piano influenced how I see the world and music as of today and through my time growing up due to my time in lessons and with the influence of piano.
For material I used oil pastel, because it is a material I want to explore more in my synthesis especially since it is a material I used a lot as a child, I also used transparent paper as sleeves too add to my collage, and for the background I collaged my old music sheets from piano lessons. These music sheets were a huge part of my childhood and are were the first introduction to actually playing music in my whole life so they are like a foundation of my childhood interests and inspirations.
Overall this was a very fun experience but I struggled a lot with proportions especially since I did not use a reference. Becuase of copyright I got a little scared of using references but I now understand that its important to make the art realistic(if that's the goal) so to fix the misproportions I went over them again in pastel to change shading and shape and then added sleeves at the end. I am debating if I want to go through and redraw the arms so they are more proportionate or to emphasize the music even more, this is because although I want my art to look neat and proportionate I don't think that accurately depicts my childhood or how my child self would see the work. I tried to add lot of sharp and quick lines to my music to add a almost immature aspect to the art to represent the youth of the piece but I think its important I emphasize this even more to take attention away from the hand and to almost create a little more chaos.
