The Soul of Nature
9.5" x 14"
Moss, Sand, Sticks, and Watercolor, on Wood Block
the idea of this art peice was to explore the question how do natures colors, patterns, and textures impact mental health? This was to also give viewers and idea on an overarching question of how nature impacts mental health.
For this art piece I used sand, a nautral resources to represent one of the textures, moss to represent a color and texture as it was also found in different places then you find sand, and sticks to put together the peices by creating a sturdy strong boarder which wood and trees do in nature. I used these materials on a wood block to organize the textures and patterns representing nature.
For the most part everything went smooth, I was very careful and it was a very slow process to get the right shapes and textures I wanted, but when I did get what I wanted it wasnt exactly what I has invisioned. Originally I had planed to mix the sand and moss to shows how the two souls unit in the presents of nature, but the moss would not stick to the sand with glue and it would pick up all the snad with hot glue. Instead I used advise from Ms. Medsker to add more shaeds and contrast by wood burning and trying to stain the wood through adding brown paint and water color to a water that I painting over the lines made bu the wood burning. To add in the moss from the begining Idea I eneded up filling the outside circles made by the wood buring to complete the patterns and still exemplify the connection between the two bodies and the colors and textures of nature.
