Oil Paint Sticks on Wooden Block
The goal of these two projects was to explore oil paint sticks as a medium. For my final project, I used a photo I took from vacation in Florida as a reference to create a landscape of the beach with the paint sticks.
For my final project, I used a wooden block as my base which was painted over in an orange-redish coat which helps establish contrast and color to my oil stick drawing. I also used paper towels and cotton swabs for blending and splitting.
I really enjoyed using this medium, although I have a long way to go the soft oil paint is so easy to blend and move that it makes the painting feel lively. I would like to go back, I say this because I know it can be better and with feedback from my peers I can see that the clouds need to be blended a little bit more into the sky and the sky has to have more sunset hues, I think my horizon line is also not very clear and I could like to define it slightly. Other than a few imperfections and things I would like to correct I am happy with my work and I will definitely want to work with this medium again.
