Scratchboard paper, Stylus, and Line tool
Original Sketch
In progress action shot for reference
For my fifth sustained investigation I wanted to create a visual of my trumpet becuase it is bent becuase of how much I used it and also it was my first instrument that I got to truly explore.
For material I used scratchboard because it was a art material I used a lot as a child and I think it shows progression from my childhood through a artistic lense but also through perspective of music. I used the stylus tool to create strong solid lines and the Line tool to fill and create more detail and even "greys" in a sense to create more shading.
The main concern I had with this art peice was if it was going to actual present my childhood or any ideas related to my sustained investigation. To add to my work I tried to really focus on the bell of the trumpet and highlight a lot of the refelection but also the dent in the trumpet, I think that the dent in the bell is the true characteristic of this instrument and also of my childhood so I used a lot of details to enhance these imperfections while keeping the rest of the line work strong and in depth.
