Plastic Base In Progress
The idea for my first sustained investigation was to create a piece of 3d art modeling the question " How do humans manipulate nature?" but specifically the pollution aspect.
For this project I used alginate to create a mold of my hands to fill with plaster, from there I painted the hands with skin colored(my skin tone) acrylic and added texture to the fingernails, I used trash to build a base for my world like a stick figure and glue cover the cracks and breaks in the hand, to represent how the hand was related to the trash. The sticks and flowers were build in a circle to represent nature in the world and the flower represents the little nature that must grow in conditions as gross and polluted as humans make them.
A big issue with this project was the hands breaking. When they broke the first time it was the pinky from both and I decided to paint them so that I could glue them back together, but this proved difficult as the glue was still not sticking and then three more fingers broke off. To resolve this I used material you would find as trash hence bandaids and wire to replicate the fingers and represent the artificialness. In the end I was very happy with the result but it also did stray quite a bit from my original sketch and I would like to see how that would turn out if I had more time and the knowledge I have gained from this project.
