Paper Textures

This project aimed to create a sculpture representing something, for me a dragonfly, out of paper.

I used tissue paper, for the colored part by using a paper machete, and then for the armature I used thin paper to crumple up to create the dragonfly body and used tape an an adhesive. I used thick watercolor paper for the wings and a wire to support those wings. To connect all of the pieces I used tape.

A big issue I had with this project was the wings. Originally I cut out the paper and wanted to glue the paper straight to paper, but due to the color and lighting, you could barely see this layer. To solve this issue I used a layer of cardboard in between the two layers to pop out the detail layer. Another issue with the wings was when attaching the wings they were very flimsy and would droop which took away from the illusion of dragonfly wings. To solve this predicament I taped a wire to the bottom of the wings, which did not entirely hold up the wings, but gave them shape and helped hold a structure to the dragonfly's body.
