Oil Pastels and Guitar Strings on Pastel Paper
For my second investigations I decided to investigate the influence of my fathers concerts specifically this scene was from my friends fathers 40th. This memory has a lot of influence to my growth as a individual and I always remember dancing all night with my best friend.
For materials I used Oil pastels, a childhood material that would blend and also give a memory type allusion to the image, and guitar strings from my old guitar to highlight my own figure to draw attention to it, all on pastel paper.
I enjoyed exploring oil pastels and creating a dark scene with them, but I can clearly see how much harder it is to make contrast when I'm trying to create a night scene. To work around this used lots of neon green to show the highlights from the light, especially in the faces and hair, and I really tried to push my darks. However, after some feedback, I think I can definitely work a little bit better on contrast and added more clarity and shading to the walls behind the people. One thing that I can say I am proud of is the improvements on shading and adding dimensions from the halfway done to the final piece. This can clearly show me experimenting and revising my work and also helped me create a clearer and more visible image for the viewer. After receiving feedback I would like to go back and blend a little more so no white specs appear and add more dimension and clarity to the walls.
