Acrylic Paint and Sharpie Marker on Canvas Paper

Artist Statement:

The main idea that guided my artwork was to create a piece of art that would include 84 different colors and shades mixed from the primary color and white and black(tints and shades). The purpose of the art is to show the range of color tints and shades that can be made and to teach the painter how to mix the colors.

I used acrylic paint, (red, yellow, blue, black, and white), and I used canvas paper. I used canvas because I have found that canvas not only captures the paint better but is easier in the sketching and final detailing stage of creating the artwork. Finally, I used a sharpie to go over the lines of the skeleton hands to help the colors pop.

When deciding the overall structure and idea of my art I found inspiration in skeleton hands. I think I found this because skeletons are known to represent scary things, dark ideas, and science, you don't tend to see skeleton hands that pop with color. I have always been drawn to skeletons and their structure so I decided that creating a visual of bones and color would express my passion and emotion for this kind of art. When I found that the hands would not be able to contain all 84 colors without getting messy I added bubble-like circles that showed the clear tints or shades of colors together to almost represent real bubbles while at the same time showing my understanding of the project outlines.
