Contour Hands

Hand design before learning shading

Dark Light before extra shading

Although I like the final project I like that this image you can not see as much of the pen bleeding.

Dark hands before feedback

Although I did not quite understand what was wrong with the image I had not like what I thought was my final hand design.

The idea of this project was to create contour hands like we had in foundations of art but incorporate contour designs as well. For mine, I made magical hands with line work as my designs.

For this project used a pencil, for the many sketches, Gel Pen, for the final details, and watercolor paints for the shading and magical effects.

The biggest issue I encountered when doing this project was bleeding pen. From what I thought I knew Sharpie gel pen did not bleed, but it in fact did. This messed with the shading and the overall neatness of the art. To solve this issue I started over and created the foundations of the piece "Dizzy Hands" I decided I still wanted to incorporate some shading as it has been something that I have been trying to challenge myself with, but the background instead was full of pen. As it was only a thing gel pen I had to add a lot more design and dizzy lines than I had ever thought I would but the time it took was worth the final design as it challenged many of my skills as an artist and I learned many things about materials and shading.
