Graphite Pencil and CD Shavings on Graphite Paper
For this sustained investigation I focused on my relationship with my headphones due to my overuse since I was a child, my true connection to music. By putting myself next to my younger self I can portray themes of growth and similarities.
I used graphite pencil to create a scene and then I used shaving of paint from my Pirates of the Caribbean CD from my childhood. The shavings were used to create my selected color. I really like graphite because it creates depth and emotion which is what I am trying to portray through my work.
I used the edge of scissors to scrap off the red paint which also meant ruining the CD, which I was kind of expecting which is why I was using the Swashbuckling Sea Songs instead of my dear CDs that I still listen to. I gathered all the paint bits in a little cup and placed them on glued areas so the would stick. I really enjoyed this work and I really truly love working with graphite, but at the same time, this is a problem. My work varies from illustration and more realistic which is a problem. To solve this I conferred with ms. Medsker about possible ways to turn this piece of work which I feel strongly about into a more illustration. As a result of our conversation and the specific CD, I am going to create a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean in the background with a black pen/marker to shape a scene through design.
