Cleaning CO2

Graphite Pencil on Graphite Paper

Reference and Sketch
This project was done under the objectives and rules of the tidal shift art competition which was to create a piece of work that offers a solution and contemplation of climate change. My art is a scene of a woman cleaning an apartment window in a city, and as she does so she cleans away the emissions of a smoke stack. This action represents the idea of cleaning up our atmosphere and limiting CO2 emissions to allow radiation to escape the planet which would inevitably slow global warming.
I used graphite pencils, mostly b and 6b as my only material becuase I wanted to create lots of contrast but through all grey hues to set a tone of my message through my art piece. This was all done on graphite paper that I cut later to frame my piece(with a one-inch border).
The main thing I got a criticism in my work is how the background does not fully look like a mirror. To try and better my work without making big changes I added more of a smokey haze to the mirror so it is clear that something is being wiped away as shown through the cloth, but I do think if I was not submitting this work I would like to try a reflection, the only issue with this being that if I mess up is may be a lot harder to fix to I would like to submit my art to Tidal Shift before making any big changes.
