DNA tells us that Pomeroys from the eastern borders of Dartmoor of Ashburton & Holne in Devon came to Trewen.
Trewen is a pretty little hamlet, just east of Bodmin Moor in the River Inny valley and lies in the Registration District of Launceston. It is an agricultural area with its own Mill. The population of Trewen parish in the 2001 census was 134. In 1841 is was about 70 people in 9 families . The only other hamlet in the parish of Trewen is Piper's Pool which straddles the A395 road.
The tiny church at Trewen has a bellcote rather than a tower and probably has Norman origins, was extended in the 15th century and restored in the late 19th century. Built upon a raised & enclosed mound, or Lan , it was consecrated and dedicated to St.Michael, a dedication was frequently given to Christian churches built upon Pagan sites There is further indication of a pagan site in the ancient Holy well in the lane to the north. To this day water from the Holy Well is bought to the church for all baptisms, a practise from great antiquity.
Trewen
The Curate Ralph Honey died & was buried in the Trewen churchyard on 28th of May 1596. His successor James Tredennecke arrived to serve as the Curate of the Chapel of Trewenne 2 years later in 1598 . Between 1539 and 1681 Trewen was a Parochial Chapel of South Petherwin but at this date became a joint Church. After this the Priest-in-charge often lived outside the Parish, one lived in Launceston. Services were held every fortnight and in 1710 there were four yearly communions with 20 communicants. By 1745 the population had increased to 17 families but the communicants had not. Trewen always seemed to take the easier course if there was religious strife.
There is a certificate of 1641 preserved in the House of Lords revealing that the "clergy, churchwardens, overseers and constables of Trewen did as the Houses bade them" concerning their "declared attachment for the reformed religion and to the rights and liberties of the subject". They did not want problems with the Parliamentarians ( Cornwall being largely Royalist ) but, if the old religion still existed, they would have been indifferent to the established Church.
In 1775 a small school was established at Trewen with a teacher's salary of £2.0.0 per annum. The Chapel would have provided a schoolroom, and the Priest was the only inhabitant who would have had the education to teach the children. Certainly he would have appreciated the addition to his stipend.
The earliest record for Trewen in the On-Line Parish Clerk site is a wedding THOMAS POMERY Marriage date 17 Jan 1631 at TREWEN to Nazareth COLICOT (FMP) probably married in the bride's parish as was the custom; However I COULD NOT FIND a Bb FOR HER IN CORNWALL or England - Alt: spelling Collacott.

Thomas Pomery Buried 8 March 1673 at Trewen suggesting they lived in the parish - but where ?
Having always thought this might have been a family of Yeoman, taking 3 life leases on their property & marrying within their own ‘class’ I now find HOWEVER that I may be mistaken because
the Voters' List 1774 (Freeholders) has no Pomery listed
