Ellacombe a C19th Rector writes  ' There is Laurence Cyst; Cyst Hinton; Broad Clyst; Cyst Honiton; Clyst Moys or Politmore Clyst St Michael or Sowton Clyst Fomizon; Clyst Sachville or Bishops Clyst in Farrington ; Clyst St Mary & Clyst St George  all in the valley of the small river Clist, or Clyst, and anciently held by the Champernownes,
 

1245 William Champnowne held the honour of Beri and the heir Henry Pomeroy & his wife Isolde in custody by the kings order -about 1300 Champenowne married Joan one of the illegitimate daughters of Reginald of Cornwall - presume Joan is connected to Rohese  sister of same Reginald & wife of 1st of the 10 or so Baron Henry Pomery’s


2nd son of the 2nd Henry Pomeroy was  Geoffrey  who in the reign of John 1199-1216 received Clistwick Brandon ( now Clyst St George ) which is 4 miles from Exeter, close to the port of Topsham  & Ceriton or Cheriton is near Bideford held from 1068 by Ranulp

Geoffrey d Pomerai held certain lands in Clistwic  by payment of 20 shillings a year or a Goss hawk ( hunting bird of prey ) from Reginald Earl of Cornwall .
Henry's mother was Rohese  sister of the Earl of Cornwall, both the illegitimate  children of  King Henry I by Syble Corbet,  one of his many mistresses. Henry I dealt generously with his illegitimate offspring giving  lands & titles to his sons & the daughters got good marriages .

Stokespitches / Suckpitch were merchant s & wine importer and may have supplied wine to Henry Pomeroy. According to Hoskins Henry Pomeroy granted Suckpitch a ferling of land in Clistwick , with salt marsh and everything he could gain (from his access ) to the sea. for which William Suckpich paid 4s a year in lieu of services gave a cask of wine for Lord Henry and an ivory bow for his son in recognition of transaction. )
