LONDON

London in the time of Elizabeth I with Westminster, a separate city in the far left corner , up river from the only bridge

LONDON Pomeroys

The ancient walled city of London is about a square mile , making  it a small area which could be walked across in about an half an hour.

The London Wall was  first built by the Romans around  the port town of Londinium on  the River Thames
Over the centuries London became the capital of England .

The Walls of City of London remained largely intact & maintained  until the 18th century. The  old walls defined the boundaries of the City of London.

The Gates that pierced these defensive walls were Aldersgate; Aldgate; Bishopsgate; Cripplegate; Ludgate;  Moorgate; Newgate

All built on  Roman foundations fragment of the wall still remain

London Bridge Gate the approach across London Bridge , the only bridge across the Thames at London for many centuries.

It is still possible to walk across the centre, the city, of London on foot in a relatively short time.

This little group interested me because around the time that East India Dock opened they seem to have moved from south of the river in Southwark to the other side Stepney

This not related to my 3x Grandfather Richard since he doesn't have a brother James
