This little amateur painting by M. Hopps reads -
Fountains Lodge & the Liscard Congregational church - Fountains Road. Williamson Art Gallery & Museum.
During the Second World War the Liscard Congregational church suffered damage from air-raids; the hall was destroyed & the adjoining school was completely destroyed.
In 1970 the church was demolished because dry rot had made it unsafe
Augustus SJ Pomeroys children
Georgiana Augusta Pomeroy the eldest child and only daughter of Augustus senior and Sarah Moore- She married Dr George Shearer in 1860 and they went to China where their first three of seven children were born including my grandfather James Ernest Shearer born in 1870 . They returned to Liverpool in 1875 where Dr George took up a medical practice in Upper parliament Street and lectured on botany atLiverpool University . He was a friend of Robert Dick the Victorian Botanist and the more famous Charles Darwin with whom he held opposing views .
Augustus Fredericks Brett Pomeroy, married Elizabeth Jackson, had two sons, Edgar and Campbell but Augustus died of TB in 1871. His sons, and their mother, lived with her father in law Augustus at Liscard house for several years. After Augustus died in 18 they migrated to USA in 1888. Where Edgar made a name for himself. See TWIG- I found and contacted one of their descendants, Robert Pomeroy, in California but he is disinterested.
James Richard Webber Pomeroy, my Cousin Pat Smith is descended from this brother, who possibly worked for the East India Company, was married in Calcutta and had four children. He too died young, of typhoid and pneumonia at the home of his brother rev Walter Willie Pomeroy in Islington in 1880. His Eldest son James died at Albert Dock House from acute suffocative bronchitis with diarrhoea at the age of 1 on 9th Feb 1875.
His son Harrison Hornblow Pomeroy was a black sheep. He stole money from the shipping line he worked for and after going to prison for several years migrating to Australia . They had four children and his son Anthony is still living and refuses to talk about his father but I later found he remarried in Melborne and died there.
Harrison Albert Pomeroy became a clergy man married Mary Jane Irvine and had one child Mary Elsie Irving who died in 1967
Walter William Pomeroy also became a clergyman, a canon , married Maria Wire but had no children.
