Nobuyuki videos - 2

On the IMDB (internet Movie Database) link for the documentary "A Surprise in Texas" , http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi3768714265/, the segment shown is the last part of the documentary when  Nobuyuki is announced as the co-medalist.   I still tear up every time I watch this.

Nobuyuki Tsujii at the 2009 Cliburn, a nice video by John H. Renos that shows the Bass Hall (where the performances took place) and Nobuyuki’s chamber music performance during the semi-final round.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjWbDm_rJUk a Cliburn video showing a “zoo party” that took place on June 2 Tuesday during the last week of the Cliburn Competition.  There is an endearing final shot of Van Cliburn and Nobu, the latter with a smile as broad as the cowboy hat he donned (which was also on his head when he arrived in Tokyo after the competition).

NTDTV report on Nobuyuki's Cliburn win, including a short interview with English translation, and a clip showing him performing Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody to a full house in Japan soon after he returned from the Cliburn.

Nobuyuki Tsujii Cliburn biographyy video - Cliburn biography posted on web during the competition, showing Nobuyuki's arrival in the U.S., with his own composition "Whisper of a river" playing on the soundtrack.

The following videos are all in Japanese - makes me wish I know that language.

**** A 9-minute Japanese TV segment that contains scenes of Nobuyuki’s return home after his Cliburn win (he sported  a Texas cowboy hat; fans gathered at the Tokyo airport and greeted him with flowers), and some dramatization of how his mother discovered his talent when he started playing Jingle Bell at age 2 and how he had arguments with his father.    Pictures and clips of Nobu when very young, including a photo of him playing violin and of course piano, pictures of him with his parents and an interview with Proessor Yokoyama.   There is a few minutes in there of a very touching footage that  shows a young Nobuyuki caressing his mother's hand backstage, perhaps before a performance.

**** "Miracle Pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii", Dated September 4, 2010, this video is posted by TheVideoCollections: "Miracle Pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii" It is 8 minutes long, in Japanese, and of high quality.  It begins with a clip showing a young Nobuyuki walking, holding a cane, with his mother by his side (he almost walked right into a bus); then as a tot, playing a toy piano with both hands accompanying his mother’s singing; very young, being evaluated by a loving (Russian?) pianist; still very young, playing to sheet music in Braille; as a teen, performing Chopin’s 12 etudes in a Japanese concert; with his mother at his side, feeling out a statue (of Beethoven in Europe?); clips from the Van Cliburn Competition that seem to come from "A Surprise in Texas", but ending with cuts of Van Cliburn, possibly after the award ceremony, embracing Nobuyuki warmly and kissing him on the top of his head. This is a great synopsis of Nobuyuki's young life so far.  Deeply moving

Nobuyuki taking a piano lession at 11 from a Japanese teacher – short clip but what awesome gift this kid has!

Tsujii Nobuyuki Kapustin/"8 Concert Etudes for Piano Op.40-2" performed at age 15 - this video was posted in January 2009 -- pre-Cliburn.   The more I watch it the more I like his performance of this jazzy-classical fusion performed with awe-inspiring technique; those who commented on the video seem to be quite astonished.

An 8 minute Japanese TV segment that must have been shown on Japanese TV after his Cliburn win.  It has clips of Nobuyuki’s past performances, including one showing him play the Chopin Concerto #1 with a Japanese Orchestra; an interview of Nobuyuki’s father, who tears up; an interview of Mr. Yukio Yokoyama, his university professor, and a clip of Nobu and Mr. Yokoyama playing Rach 2 on two pianos, side by side.  Nobuyuki does a lot of talking in a clip of him and Professor Yokoyama

A 9-minute interview on Japanese TV about his Cliburn win Noboyuki Tsujii profile, in Japanese, including clips from when he was still a baby, and a clip of him playing "Rhapsody in Blue" when he was 14.  Endearing and a big hit on youTube.

The Making of Rachmaninoff 2 with Yutaka Sado and the Deutches Symphonie shows scenes from Nobuyuki’s studio session, when the record was made in 2007 - lovingly made.

Piano master class with Yukio Yokoyama Mr. Yokoyama is the teacher shown in the documentary “A Surprise in Texas” who flew in from Tokyo for a 24-hour stay in Fort Worth to give Nobuyuki some last-minute instruction on the Chopin concerto he was to play in the final round.   This video (there are three parts) is apparently a recording of an actual lesson that took place, showing Nobuyuki being instructed by Mr. Yokoyama for Chopin Etude Op.10-10.
