Bring Me the Horizon

Amo is the sixth full length album released by Bring Me The Horizon and came out earlier this year in late January. Over time their music genre has changed and twisted from their original screamo style, to something somewhere in between rock and metal, to their latest album which is incredibly different to their older music but has a very unique sound through its blending in electronic and pop-rock genre elements.

Not going to lie though, it took a while to grow on me. Most of the songs are pretty upbeat but have a dark edge to them or a bittersweet message behind the sound. For example, the albums ninth track – “why you gotta kick me when I’m down?” is about receiving negative treatment in your life and moving away from it to better your own self rather than someone else (it also happens to be one of my personal favourite tracks on the album, just saying). This as well as a bunch of the other songs feel fuelled by passion and real emotion due to the fact that a lot of them were written based on real experiences and life events of the lead singer of the band. Overall, the album carries a theme of love (which is what “amo” translates to), whether that love is self love, love for friends and family, or love lost.
