book review

Cassandra taught us that sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare has so many mesmerising elements to it that I couldn’t possibly describe it with words. So here’s the plot, an “average” girl named Clary does normal things with normal people, yeah, yeah so we get it... Clary is 17 and at her age she is faced with too many decisions and problems; her best friend Simon cares for her more than just a friend and Clary’s mother is acting a lot different than usual. As Clary’s birthday is coming up, her mother (Jocelyn) becomes more protective and strict. When Clary is out one night she sees some peculiar things that don’t add up. As Clary and Jace’s relationship grows, Simon and Clary’s friendship seems to crumble apart.

Cassandra Clare, Author

I love everything about this book, from the gore and suspense to the romance and fantasy. This novel is under many genres such as adventure, young adult, horror and fantasy. City of Bones is actually highly recommended by older teens. In fact, they suggest that this novel entertains a large age group, from early teens to young adults. The author, Cassandra Clare, creates this whole new world (Aladdin reference) and on top of that the novel also allows the readers to empathise for the characters in the story. The novel has become so popular within young adults today that Netflix created a TV series called Shadowhunters. Although the TV series has some links to the novel, it does not stay true to the book. This is a shame as the novel is so thoughtful and that by the end of the series it really puts things into perspective. Anyway, enough with the ranting, this is a review after all! If you like reading a book that is cunning, romantic, breathtaking and captivating, then I highly recommend this book!
