Our Library Monitor With Mayor Stephen Bali

Andrea Delivering Her Speech

On the 28th of August, two of our library monitors, Andrea Abreu and Tanya Singh were thoroughly nominated and selected to participate in the Research Excellence Award Workshop held at Blacktown TAFE Campus. This event was sponsored by the Blacktown City Libraries and TAFE NSW. The workshop aimed to equip the participants with skills on maximising the use of academic search engines to acquire the best and most reliable resources. This skill would be essential to all the students’ researching needs and learning. Moreover, participants were able to acquire new media skills such as editing and photoshopping, which they could apply to enrich their creative compositions. The workshop was productive and meaningful. Every student cherished the experience. As we all know, the City of Blacktown values the education of the youth the most.

The Research Excellence Workshop culminated with a Presentation held at the Max Webber Library Function Centre on the 11th of September. Mayor Stephen Bali and other Council Officials graced the occasion. The Mayor emphasised in his speech the importance of libraries to communities and “how easy it is for the people of our generation to use them”. He also awarded the students three Certificates and a hard drive for their exceptional participation in the workshop. Andrea was among the four students who delivered a speech reflecting on their experiences during the event.
