book review

Marissa Meyer taught us that it is the mark of a great leader to question the decisions that came before.

Hello my fellow readers,

Back again with another review on a book I have read. This week I want to talk about my new favourite novel, this being the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. This book is a creative blend of romance, action and dystopia. Personally I am not a big fan of dystopia after reading the Divergent series, however, I LOVED THIS BOOK.

Set in the future when the moon is inhabited and there is an alliance between earth and the city of Lunar. This story is based on the story of Cinderella in a more modernised way, and the battles that the characters (especially the protagonist Cinder and her friends) in the later books have to go through to defeat the queen who wants to take over the earth.

Marissa Meyer, Author

The story revolves around a young mechanic cyborg by the name of Linh Cinder, who is the slave to her stepmother and sisters until she has a run in with the prince. As a baby she was found by her foster father after a crash that was thought to have killed her parents, this crash leading to her losing most of her limbs and becoming a cyborg. Cyborgs in this time are seen as evil and are abused and discriminated against for being something they cannot control. If her secret is found out, the prince who she is falling for will push her away and her mission of finding out her past will be ruined. However, as she tries to battle her growing feelings for him, she realises that she isn't normal and there is more to her past then she originally thought... the journey from start to finish will make you second guess everything at the beginning of the book and will leave you wanting to read on.

Let's talk about my favourite characters...

Captain Carswell Thorne is a sarcastic, flirtatious and a little stupid man who may not be the most serious character however, he would do anything for his friends. His character development is brilliantly portrayed and he seems to grow from a person who feels like he has to be silly for to be liked, to realising that the only person who really needs to be trusted is himself.

Cress is a nice girl kept in a small satellite for about seven years without any contact to anyone but Queen Levana. She may be small and cute on the outside but she can hack into the most secure databases anywhere even the castles. She is not only kind but she is selfless in the way she will do anything for her friends. Not only Cinder and Cress have a book, but also two other girls named Scarlet and Winter who also have stories to tell which are important to the Chronicles. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves a suspenseful dystopian novel and did I say I love this series so much?!!

I rate this 5/5 stars. Till next time happy reading.
