BOOK REVIEW

Markus taught us that even death has a heart.

Hello my fellow readers,

Me again with another book review on… well books. Today I will be writing about a new found favourite that has captured my heart and surely will capture yours.

The Book Thief is a tale of a young German girl in 1939 who in this time period had to live in Nazi Germany. She not only had to survive but she also had to go through many challenges leading to this survival story.

The book starts off by a narration, by who? You have to work that out for yourself. The narration leads you through the whole book, I have to say this is probably the best narration ever made, he makes you feel things so nice and so sad that you’ll find yourself smiling and sobbing at the same time.

The novel’s narrator introduces the protagonist Liesel whose life changes after she finds a book in the snow at a gravesite, this may seem kind of spooky but the depth of the chapters really capture your attention. Like all of us readers, Liesel has a passion for sharing stories and learning what new words and meanings are.

It is not until she meets Mr Hubermann (her foster father) that she fully learns the meaning of words and understands that words can get you through every little challenge ever.

Let's move onto the characters.

Rudy: Rudy is Liesel's best friend and partner in crime, who although I hoped they would end up together they have the kind of relationship that I felt worth reading. Rudy like many young boys of the time, has to become educated in Hitler's life. He is by far my favourite character in this novel and my heart cracks with every chapter he is in.

Mr Huberman: He is Liesel's adoptive father, who like her, loves learning and loves Liesel like his own daughter. Throughout the book we learn what Huberman has gone through in his life and how his character develops during the War.

Markus Zusak, Author

Max: Is a Jewish fighter, who was the son of one of Mr Huberman's friends. Because he is Jewish, he is a target of the Nazis and has to hide from the them. Max, just like Liesel, has to overcome many challenges such as getting beat up near death, and the loss of his family. With the help of books and new friends he overpowers these challenges and grows like Liesel.

The Book Thief is by far my favourite book of all time and I rate it 5/5 stars.

Until next time. Keep reading.
