Clary taught us that to be strong we have to face our past and use it to path the way for a better future.
Hello fellow readers,
I’m here again with another great book review on a novel that I have recently finished reading. Let me tell you now…. I LOVE it!!!
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare is a book that I have been reading since I was in year 7. Not because it is a long, hard read but because the series is too good to only read once.
Basically the plot revolves around a girl called Clary Fray, who on her birthday starts seeing the world in a whole new lense. A lense filled with magical and sometimes scary creatures. As her world turns upside down she meets a boy named Jace who she shouldn't be able to see however, it turns out that her whole ‘mundane’ life has been a lie and in fact she is a Shadowhunter, a half angel half human hybrid tasked with the protection of the human race. As she journeys through this magical world she meets friends, foes and love in all weird and lovely places.
The Mortal Instruments (TMI) is a great mix of fantasy and romance. Personally I hate love triangles and this book contains a lot of love triangles. However, Cassandra Clare in all her books makes it pretty clear who is going to end up with who so there is no real reason to feel any hatred towards the triangle. Really... everybody loves each other.
Throughout the series many characters come and go… my recommendation for this book is don’t get too attached to any characters as you don’t know if they will survive the series.
I know mine didn’t...
However, these characters have very important messages:
Cassandra Clare, Author
Clary: She learned that to be strong you have to face your past and use it to path the way for a better future.
Isobel: Just because people judge you for your actions and your gender doesn't make you any less fierce.
Jace: You can let people in.
Alec: Don't be afraid to be yourself.
Magnus: Everything can be fixed with magic and sparkle.
Simon: You can be smart and courageous.
Jonathan: You can always change if you believe you can.
As I said before I started and finished the series in year 7 and have it as a feature on my bookshelf, you can find this book in our school library and I recommend that you pick it up fast.
Overall, I give this book a ⅘ for memories and the well written plot line and the characters that you will root for.
Until next time. Keep reading.
