book review

Nicola taught us that life is a gift. Don't forget to live it.

This heart touching novel by Nicola Yoon is about an 18-year-old girl named Madeline Whittier who has a strange disease, which makes her allergic to the world. In other words, she’s sick. Very sick! When Madeline and her mother have new neighbours, she is suddenly distracted by the boy who lives next door.

Everything, Everything is a book that I personally enjoyed as there are many adventures and mysteries that occur in this wonderful novel. My favourite part of this text is when Madeline runs away from home to find out whether or not she’s sick. She and the boy fly to Hawaii as this is where Maddy wanted to experience the ocean because she’s never seen it before. I love how the author shows Maddy being curious and ambitious, which are great qualities to have.

The part that I don’t like is when Maddy’s nurse, Carla, gets fired for letting her see the boy who lives next door to them. I don't think that it is fair for Carla to get fired as she is one of Maddy’s best friends and she makes sure that Maddy is happy. I personally think that Pauline Whittier, Maddy’s mother, is being a bit too harsh on everything, just to keep Maddy safe from the outside world.

Overall, I believe that Nicola Yoon has done a magnificent job on writing Everything, Everything. This book is very entertaining and has a great storyline. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading texts about drama and/or a bit of romance, especially for teens and young adults. The rating I would give this novel would have to be 4.5 stars. I would prefer for the book to have longer chapters, nevertheless, the illustrations are amazing. If you would like to read Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, trust me, you’ll enjoy it just as much as I did.
