Book review

Claudia taught us that life is to be lived one day at a time. We cannot worry about the past or future. Happiness is in the now.

Hi! My name is Barbara. I have spent the past few days living in the world of Skye Tierney in the novel Balthazar, composed by the brilliant author Claudia Gray. And I must say, another heart stopping novel has just been added to my list!

This novel is a fictional text, which explores the thrilling supernatural world, and the aftermath of a death and heartbreak. The novel begins with a hair-raising encounter. The human protagonist Skye Tierney is hunted by a sinister vampire, whose only intention is to kill her. But as she is thrown off of her horse, and receives a sharp cut through her hand, the vampire realises as he tastes her blood, that it is unlike any blood he has had ever before. Skye’s blood enables vampires to remember valuable human memories. It is something that all vampires want, and they would do anything to feel alive again. And of course there has to be a love story! Balthazar, a tragically handsome vampire, who rescues her from evil. He protects her from any vampires who come near, and realises that although he’s had disastrous human relationships in previous centuries, not all relationships with humans have the same devastating ending.

In this text, I would have to say that Balthazar is my most valued character. Throughout the entire novel, he is portrayed as such a charming and powerful individual, that always acts out of selflessness, and captivates responders through valuing consideration. Claudia Gray impressively constructed this text, by integrating both Skye Tierney’s, and Balthazar’s perspective. This technique lets me explore two spectacularly time-stopping point of views, almost every time I flipped the page! Putting the beauty of this novel into a few paragraphs is impossible, but I have to say, that this novel is a marvelous creation, and has definitely enhanced my love for the fictional supernatural world.
