Book review

Lexie taught us that friendships are cultivated even in the strangest of ways.

Mr Romanov’s Garden in The Sky by Robert Newton is a realistic fiction novel that will surely touch the lives of teenagers for its discussion of friendship and determination. It is about a girl named Lexie who has dreamt of leaving her dull home in the housing commission and visit Surfers Paradise, set in the BEST AND MOST CAPTIVATING COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!! Ahem… Australia! Will Lexie fulfil her dream or will she stay in her dark grey housing commission with nothing but her mother as companion?

Although I don’t usually read these types of books, I feel as if this particular one made me view things in different perspectives. It allowed me to see how other kids my age would see the world and really made me contemplate on life, dreams, relationships and love. This novel was captivating for the first few pages, but after that the pace of the story had gone slow and I had to put extra effort to read the rest.

However, if you like discovering about diverse characters and finding out what kids aged 14 years could be going through, then this is a great book for you!! So with that said, I think that this novel could be better if the narration of the story is much faster. Nonetheless, the novel is enjoyable for what and I give this novel a 2/5.
