BBIBBI

Artist: IU

Release Date: 10 October 2018

Genre: Kpop, R&B

The laid back but cheerful digital single, BBIBBI by popular solo artist, IU is what the crowd needs. The song has a simply refreshing but catchy beat which I personally can’t get out of my head. This song has a soft blend of harmonies and shifting percussions to suit IU’s mellow but energetic aura and voice. The music video aids the refreshing vibes through the colourful and vibrant production and simple choreography. The artist, IU is exceeding expectations with her great vocals once again. Though, what is most captivating is the contrasting lyrics to this wonderful song.

IU’s cute but sassy way to tell her fans her true feelings is inspirational as she uses her music to address the issue of privacy light heartedly with a contrasting music video. I may have began enjoying this song due to its catchy yet refreshing beat but now, I appreciate the lyrics and the message behind this song. This is why it appeals to young Korean fans and other young people all over the world.

IU, Singer

The word “BBIBBI” is a sound of a warning bell when something crosses a boundary. The lyrics of this song express this warning sound effortlessly as it represents her desire for privacy as an idol and celebrity when she holds up a yellow card indicating the inappropriate behaviour of some fans. This is seen in the translated lyrics, “Yellow C A R D. If you cross this line, it’s a violation, beep.” IU also explains how people shouldn’t cross the line as what we see on camera is all she wants us to see not her private life. In the translated lyrics, it says, “Stop it, keep the distance cause we don’t know know know.” This shows how fans should respect her private life and the lives of private celebrities as well. Celebrities are human beings too. They also deserve to be left alone and their private life kept in secret.

For all those who love a visual enticing text, the music video will satisfy you with its vibrant yellow and orange hues and pastel pink and green colours. BBIBBI will certainly remain in your head for a while with its cool rhythm, candid lyrics and cute choreography in the music video.
