BOOK REVIEW

Veronica Roth taught us that selflessness and bravery aren't all that different.

Divergent… The name itself makes me smile. This thrill-seeking and catastrophic series is created by Veronica Roth. I can’t find the words to describe how… See what I mean? I just can’t. I have found that this series is extraordinarily exceptional in so many different ways. Whether it is the fierce fighting scenes or the sweet romance between Four and Tris, I adore every word that is written in all the novels.

This series starts with a girl called Beatrice Prior, her society is split into factions that believe in the eradication of a specific human personality trait. Abnegation - selfishness, Dauntless - cowardliness, Amity - aggression, Erudite - ignorance and Candor - duplicity. If you wish to read this series there might be some hints of spoilers in this review.

At the end of the first novel, the protagonist becomes Tris, who turns into a badass and lives in a broken community. Divergent is absolutely stunning. The action is always detailed, the romance isn’t too much or too little, mystery is scattered throughout and the clever twists are entangled within the novel.

In the second novel - Insurgent - it is mainly around the solution of the conflict in the first book...don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed it but just not as much. The description of the setting in all three novels is simply amazing. I could always imagine how everything felt, including the feel of the air warping around me. The third novel - Allegiant - stabbed me in the heart too many times and I love and hate it so much for doing so. It captures emotions easily and effortlessly which allowed me to feel them myself.

Time for the review… I absolutely adored this series as I was never able to put it down, and even when I did I couldn’t stop thinking about it, no matter what. Roth always seemed to capture every little detail of a scene to make it as realistic as possible, and I kept reminding myself that it was just fiction, it’s not real!

Veronica Roth, Author

I’m normally not an emotional person when it comes to movies, novels or anything fictional, however, I did find myself crying in the car on the way to school after literally just finishing the series. Whether I was crying from the fact that I was happy that the heart-wrenching experience was over or that my heart was still pounding in pain after reading the last book...I guess I will never know. Moreover, Veronica Roth had inflicted a lot of emotions on me and I absolutely loved it. The fact that a piece of text can impose such thick and pungent emotions seriously leaves me in awe. Although I read this series months ago, I still possess the same amount of enthusiasm towards it and I believe that it will last for a long time. The characters are extremely loveable, unless, of course they aren’t meant to be because Roth made sure you'd hate them.

Overall, I cannot completely describe my infatuation for this series and I wouldn’t change anything about it. I strongly recommend these novels to any young adult who is a fan of the dystopian genre. I would like to warn you though that if suicide or gore or blood is not your thing please steer away from reading the series. Otherwise, take a deep breath and enjoy!

Happy reading!!!
