Many people know the tale of the Legendary Percy Jackson either through the movies or the book series. While the book series may as well be a gift from God because it was so good, the same can’t be said for the movies.

If watched individually Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief might seem like a good movie to watch, but no matter what, it does not do justice to the book series.

The main characters are 12 year old Percy and blonde Annabeth and a satyr named Grover. I bet more than $5, that people who watched the movies are confused now. In the movies, Percy is 17 and Annabeth is a brunette! Such a let down, Athena would be disappointed!!! Movie Percy is devoid of all humour and goofiness that readers fell in love with, and speaking of love. Book Percy and Book Annabeth was shipped instantly but the Movie didn’t even let the audience accept the couple properly, ever since they connected eyes as they performed some sword foreplay, it was like they were being forced together, almost rushed.

And let’s be honest readers, we’d all prefer 12 year old Percy decapitating Medusa then shipping it to the GODS with a note saying ‘best wishes’ than no emotion Percy Jackson who decided carrying a head is a great idea. So many great parts of the book have been left out and forgotten from the movie, including the amazing fight between Percy, Annabeth and Grover and the Fates, Annabeth’s love for architecture excluding that one line she said, "OH HEY the Parthenon is neat". This proves my point that the movie doesn’t allow the audience to fully understand the characters well. Where is Percy’s humour and blue food? Where is Annabeth’s blonde hair, grey eyes, love for architecture and individuality? Where is Grover’s broken plates and napkins?

Overall, Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief the movie doesn’t capture the real beauty coming from the books, instead they made something completely different, diminishing the dreams of readers who all wished for a Percy Jackson movie. I give this film 1/10.
