Given our clientele, it is important that we recruit the best staff in the industry to deliver our programs.
The nature of casual work in the Blue Mountains means that there is a high natural staff turnover rate and we need to ensure we have protocols to continually recruit the most qualified and desirable staff.
Staff recruitment is a continual and constant process. Our large programs have significant staffing pressure and we need to ensure that our pipeline is full of strong and capable candidates (and that we are not desperately seeking staff at the last minute).
Here are the main sources of staff recruitment:
Word of Mouth/ Referrals
The guiding/casual staff pool in the Blue Mountains is relatively small. The better we treat our staff (pay, conditions, engagement, gratitude etc) the more likely we have of them talking to their friends and other colleagues who will in turn want to reach out and work for us.
TAFE Wentworth Falls
Every six months James goes into Wentworth falls TAFE and presents a keynote to Cert 3, Cert 4 and Diploma students. Not only is this a way of James investing in the next generation of guides and outdoor enthusiasts, it provides a fantastic opportunity to recruit young, new fresh staff.
Current Staff recommendations
Many of our casual staff work with numerous other employers. As casual staff, they are often working with numerous other casual staff constantly (and with their ears on the ground ), our current pool of staff often work with great colleagues we have never met.
In order to connect with these potential new staff members all we need to do is ASK THE QUESTION! "Have you worked with".
Social Media
It is worth every six month (possibly more regularly) posting on social and putting out there that we are looking for new staff to join our amazing team. Please get in contact!
