Students in the JCHS Chorus practice their sight reading using multiple resources, including a computer program called Sight Reading Factory. This program creates an unlimited amount of examples which vary in difficulty from beginner to advanced to expert level. Sight reading is a major component of improving musicianship and singing ability.

The Dance & Drama Fall Cabaret was a huge success at Jackson County High School!

For Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Chase's Spanish for Native Speakers class created profiles for each Spanish speaking country. The country profiles were displayed in front of the library for the entire school to see. After creating their own country profiles, students got to explore others' projects and demonstrate their understanding of the information about the other countries by writing diary entries of their experiences in those countries (what they learned about the country) in their fake passports. Students were able to gain a better understanding of different cultures throughout the Spanish speaking countries in the world.

In wrestling, Coach Muehling has served as everything from middle school head coach to varsity co-head coach. Mrs. Pyper is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah but spent elementary through 8th grade in Morgantown, West Virginia before moving to Watkinsville, Georgia.  After high school, she received the highest scholarship awarded to Music Education majors at UGA and so spent the first year of college as a Music Education student.  This scholarship was based on her performance as a cellist which she started playing when she was 8.  Since the school she attended did not have orchestras, she picked up the flute in middle school and marched her way through high school.

At UGA, she decided that the music life was not in her career plan, and she switched her major to Biology.  During her 2nd year at UGA, she decided to take advantage of the national exchange program and spend a year out in Utah attending the University of Utah.  This experience was absolutely amazing and it is where she met her husband.  They both played in the orchestra together and they became great friends and two years later they were married.

She finished her biology degree and then spent a year pursuing an archaeology/anthropology degree, during which she spent 40 days/nights in the desert of central Utah.  The team she was a part of was focusing on the artifacts and remnants of the Ancient Fremont that were located in Range Creek.  It was during this summer that she met her graduate professor from Brigham Young University, and the next summer she was a graduate student at BYU of Environmental Science.  Her graduate work focused on the Fremont that were located in the Goshen, Utah, as well as the Maya that were found in the Yucatan, Mexico.  More specifically, she gathered hundreds of soil samples at these locations and brought them back to the lab to analyze them for traces of elements such as copper, phosphorus, and iron.  From these findings, site maps could be presented that helped scientists identify possible locations of food processing or pigment making.

After receiving a Masters in Environmental Science, she moved to Georgia where she began tutoring chemistry at UGA.  At that point she decided to get certified to teach at the high school level and begin teaching. She taught at Winder-Barrow High School for 5 years before coming to JCHS.

During the 11 years that her family has lived here in Georgia, they have moved from Watkinsville to Athens and up to Jefferson.  She has 3 children, Alison (9), Lizzy (7), and Emma (3), as well as a Labrador dog, Annie (14).  Ms. Pyper loves to travel and enjoy good food with family.  In addition to family life and school, she loves to box, run mud races, and most recently triathlons. She also loves to draw and do yardwork.  Life is pretty amazing.

Even though Mr. Richardson teaches math, he was not always good at it or enjoyed it. Up until 9th grade, he just didn’t get it--but he had a great teacher who taught the material so that he could understand it.  His teacher met the where they were, which allowed him to grasp the concepts she was teaching. His 12th grade math teacher is the reason he is teaching now. She loved each of her students unconditionally and showed how much she cared for her students each day. Those two teachers are his goal for teaching because they not only knew how to teach but they also knew their students.

Mr. Richardson started his teaching career at Eagles Landing High School in Henry County, Ga. where he taught Alg. 1, Geometry, AMDM, and Algebra Support. He also coached offensive line and ran the weight program for the football team. After 5 years, he moved to Spalding High School, which was closer to home, and taught Algebra 1 & 2, College Readiness, and Geometry. He also coached offensive line while he was there.
