Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
March 2nd is the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the author behind famous books like The Cat in the Hat and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
While his stories may seem meant for younger readers, their messages still apply in high school and beyond. Dr. Seuss wrote about being yourself, overcoming challenges, and believing in your future. As you work toward your goals, his words are a reminder that your choices matter—and your future is full of possibilities.

Work-Based Learning Spotlight
This week’s Work-Based Learning Spotlight recognizes four students serving as teaching apprentices in our local middle schools. These placements give students valuable, hands-on experience as they explore education as a future career.
At Legacy Knoll Middle School, seniors Logan Stinchcomb and Christopher Long are placed with Mr. Chandler Dickerson, assisting with instruction and classroom support. Both Logan and Christopher will pursue music at Columbus State.
Junior Brook Lockman is also serving at Legacy Knoll in the media center with Mrs. Meg Barber, gaining experience in student services and school media operations.
At West Jackson Middle School, junior Emma Patton is placed with Mrs. Ellie Gillespie in the agriculture department, supporting hands-on learning and classroom activities.
These apprenticeships allow our students to build leadership, communication, and professional skills while serving as positive role models. We are grateful to the principals and teachers at Legacy Knoll Middle School and West Jackson Middle School for partnering with our Work-Based Learning program and investing in the future of education.

Complete Your GSFAPP for HOPE & Zell Miller Scholarships
The Georgia Student Finance Application (GSFAPP) is how students apply for Georgia’s state financial aid programs, including:
HOPE Scholarship or Grant
Zell Miller Scholarship or Grant
Tuition Equalization Grant (for students attending eligible private colleges in Georgia)
The GSFAPP is quick and easy to complete. It takes only 3–5 minutes, is valid for 10 years, and does not require tax information or a parent/guardian signature. Complete the GSFAPP HERE.
Additional Important Financial Aid Steps:
1. Check Your HOPE/Zell Miller GPA
Students can check their current HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship GPA calculation by logging into their GAfutures Dashboard and selecting the “My High School HOPE GPA” tab.
2. Complete the 2026–27 FAFSA
Students should complete the FAFSA to determine eligibility for federal and additional state financial aid. Visit GAfutures for information and guidance.
Important Reminder:
Students must have a GAfutures Student account to complete the GSFAPP and access their HOPE GPA. Their profile must include their correct: Full legal name, High school name, Address, Date of birth, & Social Security number
Completing the GSFAPP ensures students can receive valuable Georgia scholarship and grant opportunities. We strongly encourage all seniors to complete this as soon as possible.
