Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP):

GHP is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom. It is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.  GHP is held in mid-summer (mid-June to mid-July) as a residential educational experience on a college or university campus.

GHP is an amazing opportunity for students. Please watch the video to meet two JCHS young scholars (J.D. Smith and Kellen Salom) that participated in this prestigious program over the summer.

Students in Mr. Lockard and Mrs. Barnhill's 9th Grade Literature classes are exploring the meaning of sonnets by studying “Pop sonnets.” They are taking current pop songs that are written in Shakespearean sonnet form and figuring out who the original artist is and the name of the original songs.

The Ceramics One course at Jackson County High School provides a comprehensive study in methods of sculpture, hand-built clay construction, and basic wheel throwing techniques. This week, students learned about the fundamentals of Ceramics and then created an 8-page booklet showing their learning.

The JCHS International Club is an organization designed to promote cultural awareness and understanding as well as to increase opportunities for education about the cultures of the U.S. and other countries. The theme for last week's meeting was Hawaii! They had snacks while learning about Hawaiian history, celebrated member birthdays, introduced their logo competition, and played limbo!
