Exemption Requirements for JCHS Final Exams (as written in the Student Handbook):
Students will be given the opportunity to exempt a final exam if the student has an A (weighted average) in their coursework average.
An exempted assessment is not counted in the gradebook.
A final exam does NOT include an EOC, EOPA, or other mandated assessment.
Please note that EOC scores are 20% of a student’s final grade. As a result, a student’s final average in the course might be lower than originally calculated on the exam exemption notification date.
To verify if your student is exempt from a JCHS Final Exam please:
Check your student's coursework average via the Infinite Campus Portal. A student is exempt from the final exam if their coursework average is a weighted 90 or higher. Parents/Guardians and Students have access to the Infinite Campus Portal. Find out more information about downloading the Infinite Campus Parent app and setting up notifications HERE.
Students received prior notification in class if they are exempt from any JCHS Final Exams administered on May 22nd and May 23rd. In addition, students received an Exam Exemption Notification Form on BLUE paper to obtain Teacher Signatures indicating exam exemption per course to share with parents/guardians. The Exam Exemption Notification Form serves as notification that your student is eligible to exempt specific exams and does not need to be returned to the school. Please read the form thoroughly to understand exam options should you want your exempt student to participate in exams.
Students will not be counted absent on Monday, May 22nd and Tuesday, May 23rd if exempted from an exam.
If you have any questions, please contact your student's teachers.
For the 2023-2024 SY, the expectation for all students enrolled in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses is to participate in supplemental work prior to the beginning of their AP/IB course. The goal of supplemental assignments is to build prior knowledge and provide a preview of the first unit of study for each advanced course. We believe this will better prepare students for academic growth and the overall success of our advanced coursework programs. Assignments are not meant to be punitive, but to prepare students for the rigor of advanced coursework.
Students enrolled in 1st Semester AP/IB courses will complete supplemental assignments before returning to school in August.
Students enrolled in 2nd Semester AP/IB courses will complete supplemental assignments before courses begin in January.
Students should complete the coursework only for the courses in which they are enrolled. Click on the hyperlink(s) on the attached document to locate assignments. Students should reach out to their AP/IB teacher with any specific questions.
Congratulations to the Class of 2023!
