Rick Simonds graduated with his Bachelors degree in History from the University of Georgia.
Mr. Simonds is a true believer in developing the leaders of tomorrow and the importance of how history shapes and influences the present.
Mr. Simonds likes a free flow of ideas and exploration of all that history as a subject has to offer. He wants his students to be curious and questioning while learning and actively participating. When it comes to learning, as always, knowledge is power.
Mr. Simonds is a huge fan of: vinyl records, estate sales, and woodworking. He is also a lover of our National Park System.
He cannot wait to teach, learn, and grow with his Panther Family!
Sarah Sloat has been a Special Education Teacher for 10 years, in 3 different states and has taught every grade level except Kindergarten. Sarah is a passionate educator who believes that all children can learn, make progress and be successful. Sarah especially loves working with High School age students who will be soon transitioning into the “real world.” She loves to help students develop long term career goals and assist in the action plan to get them there.
Mrs. Sloat earned her Bachelors in Psychology from Eckerd College, then her Masters Degree in Teaching Students with Varying Disabilities in 2010. She is currently in the homestretch of her Specialist Degree in Special Education Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.
Her first teaching experience was in Tampa, Florida where she was both a push-in support and resource teacher for grades 1-5. After moving to Northern Michigan, she found herself teaching High School Math as well as being both a resource teacher and Work Based Learning Coordinator. After a few years, she transitioned into a Consultative Leadership position for the Eastern Upper Michigan Intermediate School District. She was able to further develop my craft and began to mentor and serve students in a variety of school districts as well as students seeking a GED and those being held in local jails.
She moved to Jackson County in July 2021 and began serving students as a 5th grade co-taught teacher at West Jackson Elementary School. Throughout my career, she continually seeks improvement and enjoys mentoring new teachers in the field. She enjoys research and going over and above for her students.
She believes that Education is the most powerful tool any one individual can ever have to strengthen our Families, our Community, our State, our Nation and our growing world.
She is happily married and has 3 incredible daughters, two of whom attend Jackson County Schools. She is a lover of camping, traveling, cooking, and the beach. After several years of harsh Michigan Winters, she has such gratitude for gorgeous yearlong weather and seasons. She loves softball, golf and fishing.
There is no better place for her than sitting around a campfire or enjoying the beach with family and friends. Her favorite vacation spot is anywhere a Cruise Ship will take her.
Jason Smith is proud to be a new member of the JCHS Panther Team. His background is Natural Science with a focus in the areas of Agriculture, Veterinary, and Wildlife Biology. He appreciates the daily opportunities to work with young people, and he takes these opportunities to be of service to his students, their families, and community stakeholders.
