2. Device to Home:

Connecting to the Internet

An aim of the Manaiakalani Programme is to enable all our young people, who live in the area, to connect their Manaiakalani learning device to the internet. The community WiFi is called the Tamaki Learning Network (TLN) and is distributed from the schools in the area.

If you live within the range of the WiFi, your child will be able to access the internet from home (please note - coverage is not guaranteed).

The TLN is only accessible through a Manaiakalani learning device. Devices from outside of the programme will not be able to access this WiFi. Similarly if you live outside the area you will not be able to access the TLN.

We expect to have 3 groups of children:

    1. Those who can access the TLN

Children who can access the TLN-Students WiFi on their chromebook will be able to access the internet for learning, no password is needed on their chromebook to connect to the TLN-Students WiFi.

    1. Those who can’t access the TLN but their parents have WiFi set up at home already.

Use your home internet settings and connect your device to the internet yourself.

    1. Those who cannot access the TLN and don’t have internet at home.

If you aren't connected to a WiFi or mobile network, you can still view and edit files, including: Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides.

When you return to school and access the internet your offline edits will update online in your Google Drive.

NB: The Tamaki Learning Network is only accessible to Manaiakalani children on their Chromebook. The Tamaki Learning Network is to be used responsibly and with respect to the Responsible Use Agreement in the Kawa of Care.

3. Insurance

The Manaiakalani Programme includes insurance provision in the event of unintentional damage or loss of the device. This is part of the package you signed up for when you purchased the device. As long as the children and family have adhered to the ‘User Conditions’ below, the devices are insured.

There is no excess to be paid when an insurance claim is made on devices purchased after 1st July 2017. (Insurance Claims are limited to 3 over the 3 years of cover)

Manaiakalani Whanau Engagement : Parent Chromebook Training

Parents are expected to complete parent Chromebook training before their child’s device goes home. This training will give helpful and informative teaching to ensure the device is used as agreed to in the Kawa of Care. It also supports parents to increase their own computer skills.

NB: Parent Chromebook Training sessions are run through the Manaiakalani Education Trust. Information about these sessions will be communicated through your schools.
