Today's agenda:

    • Students received a worksheet that contains common words or phrases that either the teacher, the student, or both need to know. The worksheet is a matching activity in Spanish and English. Our goal is to get to know all the words and phrases in a timely manner. I have attached the worksheet to the website.

    • Students continued to practice the numbers 0-99. We did the 0-99 card pass along. We worked in pairs with students sharing phone numbers while another student wrote down the number he heard. We also played 99 with dice. This is a numbers practice activity in which students are trying to beat their partner to 99. If a student rolls a 6 they say seis out loud and then they write six on the paper. Their next roll they say seis again, roll the die, say the number that is on the die for this roll, add it to the previous total, and say the new cumulative score out loud. i.e.

roll 1 seis

roll 2 seis (roll a four) y cuatro....diez.

roll 3 diez (roll a five) y cinco...quince.

etc....first student to 99 wins the die game.

  • Students continued to practice the alphabet. We worked out of the alphabet packet, practicing the spelling of common boys and girls names.

  • Students continued to practice the weather terms, months, and the seasons. Students practiced in pairs going over the scramble. Students practiced asking each other Que tiempo hace en....? and responding En such and such a place the weather is....

i.e. Que tiempo hace en Sweden? Cold and it is snowing

En Sweden Hace frio y esta nevando

There are 3 good worksheets in the weather packet that address this exchange. We worked on all 3 in class practicing the spoken part in pairs. Students are advised to practice the written portion of the worksheet at home.

    • students received a cierto/falso worksheet (44 statements). Students had to read the statements and decide if they were cierto o falso.

On Monday we will take weather quiz (multiple choice), a numbers quiz (students will hear a phone number and they must write the correct number, and an alphabet quiz in which they will hear me spell 10 names and they must write the letters I say. On Tuesday/Wednesday students will take their first unit test, which covers pages 1-25 and the Unidad preliminar. Students must know the alphabet, how to say their name, ask someone else their name, know how to ask someone, "how are you", be able to respond to the question of how are you, know how to say where they're from, how to ask someone where they're from, know the Spanish speaking capitals and countries, greetings, numbers 0-99, days of the week
