Today's agenda:
Today students began working on unit 2.2. There were 3 main points of focus for today's class.
a. estar + adjective
b. using the verbs Ir and Tener que in the same sentence
c. learning the vocabulary for classroom objects
Estar + adjective-Students received a matching worksheet in which they have to match the Spanish adjective with the English equivalent. I have attached it to the website. We then discussed how the verb estar accompanies these adjectives of temporary feelings and emotions. The verb Estar means "To Be" and it conjugates as follows:
Yo estoy
Tu estas
El esta
Ellos estan
Nosotros estamos
The adjectives follow the conjugated verb and are subject to changing depending upon the pronouns. For example.
enfermo means sick, and can be used in four different ways.
La chica esta enferma
el chico esta enfermo
Las chicas estan enfermas
Los chicos estan enfermos
To practice estar plus adjectives the students played tic tac toe using the following 9 sentences;
estar contento
estar cansado
estar enfermo
estar tranquilo
estar triste
estar feliz
estar ocupado
estar frustrado
estar enojado
Students should study and practice by substituting different pronouns for each sentence. For home practice, they can use the following pronouns;
Yo
Tu
El chico
Las chicas
usted
ustedes
Nosotros
Mis padres
Tu y yo
Tu y tus amigos
In other words, sentences would look like this...
yo estoy contento/a
tu estas cansado/cansada
el chico esta enfermo
las chicas estan tranquilas
etc, etc, etc...
Students worked on understanding the verbs Ir and Tener que, and using these verbs with vocabulary from Unit 2.2. We played the dice game today (attached to the website) with a worksheet that helped us to reinforce the verb conjugation along with the vocabulary.
IR-To Go Tener que + infinitive
Yo voy tengo que...
Tu vas tienes que...
El
Ella va tiene que...
Usted
Ellos
Ellas van tienen que...
Ustedes
Nosotros vamos tenemos que...
Rolling a 5 and 5 with the dice, the sentence would be Ustedes van a la clase de ciencia porque tienen que hacer los experimentos.
1) El chico
2) Las chicas
3) Tú
4) Yo
5) Ustedes
6) Nosotros
2) ir al baño/tener que lavar las manos

Students began working on learning the vocabulary for classroom items and objects. We started out with a Spanish to English matching assignment (attached). Then we did a couple of activities working with vocabulary flash cards practicing Spanish to English and English to Spanish. In the end, students just need to know the classroom items and objects in Spanish.
