Today's agenda:

    • Students began studying Unit 3.1 today. This unit's main focus is foods and drinks, the verb gustar (to like) with nouns, interrogatives, and --er and --ir verbs, both meaning and conjugation. Students should begin studying the vocabulary found on page 159.

    • Students need to get 2 packets from me. The interrogative words packet, and the --er and --ir verb packet.

    • For starters we studied how to use the verb gustar with singular and plural nouns. As a reminder, the verb gustar does not use the subject pronouns of yo, tu, el, ellos, and nosotros. Instead, gustar uses the indirect object pronouns me, te, le, les, and nos. Using the verb gustar with a singular noun requires us to use gusta as our conjugation-for example:

me gusta el pan

te gusta la fruta

A Luis le gusta el cereal

A las chicas les gusta el cafe

Nos gusta la leche con chocolate

    • You'll notice that we used me in place of you,, te in place of tu, le in place of el, les in place of ellas, and nos in place of nosotros. So, typically an --ar verb with yo would conjugate to yo hablo, yo practico, yo escucho, etc. With gustar, and in the yo form, the sentence would read me gusta + singular noun. If you look on page 145, you will see how gustar functions with both singular and plural nouns. After studying this concept a little, we worked on a gustar + nouns (foods and drinks) worksheet (attached).

    • Students received a packet with all the interrogative words. Students who are absent should ask me for this packet and I will get them up to speed.

    • Students began to study the --er and --ir verbs. They received a packet, if absent, please ask for the packet. We will spend the entire week learning the meaning and the conjugations of many --er and --ir verbs through a variety of interactive activities. Today we simply worked on getting to know the verbs meanings, and understanding how to ask questions in the tu form and how to respond in the yo form. For example: Lees tu mucho? Si yo leo mucho. Comes tu mucho? Si yo como mucho. Bebes tu la leche? Si yo bebo la leche. This is an important function, students learning the you and I exchange question to answer.
