FELLOWSHIP FOR THE FUTURE OF JOURNALISM (PAID)
WHO: High School Students completing your 10th grade year of high school in good academic standing.
WHAT: Fellows will attend classes on a set schedule and follow a learning arc to create a strong foundation in journalism. You will produce your own pieces that will be published on thenationfund.org, in newsletters and on thenation.com. You will have the support of a teacher and a mentor. The time commitment is estimated to be ten hours per month (between class time and homework). Please note that interns are expected to come into the office two days a week. While we will consider applications from candidates who prefer to work remotely, we will give preference to those able to be in the New York metropolitan area during the internship. Upon acceptance, applicants may discuss their work options with the program director. We do not accept applicants who will still be in school during the internship. Applicants that will still be enrolled in school during the internship will be automatically rejected; we encourage you to re-apply after graduating.
WHERE: Meetings will be held via video conference, cameras on.
WHEN: The Fellowship for the Future of Journalism will run from approximately from June 22 to December 11, 2026. The internship is full-time, five days a week. (Interns work 35 hours per week.) Interns are paid $20 per hour, $700 per week.

WHAT: Brooklyn Public Library's Teen Writing Contest is a chance for local teens to showcase their work in a supportive environment. Top winners in poetry and prose will receive the new Ned Vizzini Teen Writing Prize with a cash award to honor Ned and his literary legacy. If you're a teen writer from New York City, grades 6-12, you're invited to submit your poetry and prose to be judged by a panel of BPL's expert young adult librarians for creativity, style and voice.

ENGINEERING THE NEXT GENERATION (ENG) (PAID)
WHO: For students currently in grade 11
WHAT: For six weeks, students work with Columbia Engineering researchers and participate in programming to develop their academic and professional skills. Students gain practical research experience, collaborate with research faculty, staff, and students, practice new skills, and take part in multi-level mentorship.
Program components include experience in working on genuine engineering research projects, research skills and college prep workshops, science communications workshops, and additional supplemental seminars and opportunities.
Students are provided with a stipend to support them over the summer.
We encourage all rising seniors (current 11th graders) with an interest in engineering and research to apply.

WHAT: NYCPS’ Office of Food and Nutrition Services is seeking Summer Apprentice Workers (SAW) to work its kitchens and cafeterias over the course of this year’s Summer Meals Program. SAWs are high school-aged employees who gain valuable food industry experience while working in our food distribution areas. Once hired, SAWs earn $16.50 per hour and work from 7:30AM–1:30PM, Monday–Friday, with 30 minutes each day for lunch. In order to be considered for an interview, applicants will need to submit a reference letter on school letterhead from a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, or assistant principal from your current high school to Marc T. Mills by March 23. Applicants should also be sure to include their contact information (e-mail, home address, phone number, etc), as well as their age and grade level alongside their reference letter. Candidates who are selected for an interview will be notified by mail.

NEW-YORK HISTORICAL STUDENT HISTORIAN INTERNSHIP (PAID)
WHO: Current 10th, 11th, 12th Graders
WHAT: Student Historians are high school-aged interns who use the resources of The New York Historical to conduct in-depth research and share their scholarship through the production of creative digital projects that serve as public educational resources. Interns meet with professional staff to learn about the museum, library, digital humanities, and history fields; and work collaboratively with fellow students to develop their historical thinking, communication, and digital media skills. The program involves substantial research and writing, allowing interns to deepen their understanding of American history and the digital humanities through academically rigorous, hands-on work. The historical theme of the internship is Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass’ America.
All interns will receive a $700 stipend upon successful completion of the internship. Participation in this program can be used to fulfill the extracurricular requirement for the NYSED Seal of Civic Readiness.
WHERE: The internship takes place in person at the New-York Historical Society.
