BUILD YOUR OWN ARTS ORG: EXPLORING ADMINISTRATIVE CAREERS IN THE ARTS (UNPAID)
WHO: 11th - 12th grade Highschool Students
WHAT: The New York City Center Externship Program introduces students and young adults, ages 14-18, to the many career options available to them in the arts; focusing on creative, technical, design, and administrative arts jobs. Utilizing breaks in the NYC public school year, each session is centered around in-depth, experiential seminars. Under the guidance of City Center staff and artists, participants will have opportunities to explore responsibilities and tasks for a variety of arts jobs and have a greater understanding of non-profit operations. Each program is free and includes daily lunch and complimentary tickets to a City Center production. Upon completition of each session, participants will leave with their own creative project materials.

WHO: 11th - 12th grade Highschool Students
WHAT: Are you interested in anti-censorship advocacy? Students ages 14-19 are invited to apply for the upcoming four-day, in-person Freedom to Read Advocacy Institute to connect with peers to discuss book challenges, censorship, and intellectual freedom. Have fun while exploring how to be an effective intellectual freedom advocate in your community. Participants will receive a $200 stipend for completing the institute and continuing to work on advocacy projects throughout the year as Freedom to Read Teen Ambassadors.

WHO: 9th grade Highschool Students
WHAT: The Summer Law Institute is an intensive five-week program for rising ninth-graders that seeks to inspire students to strive for academic excellence and to pursue careers in the law. During the SLI, students will learn about criminal justice, the criminal trial process, and participate in a mock trial competition in front of actual judges!
WHEN: The first week of August, Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm
WHERE: The SLI takes place for five weeks over the summer, generally starting the week following the end of the NYC Department of Education school year. You will be assigned to one of seven law schools: Brooklyn Law School, Cardozo School of Law, Columbia Law School, CUNY School of Law, Fordham School of Law, NYU School of Law, St. John’s School of Law.

SAFE HAVEN WEST SIDE BASKETBALL LEAGUE (UNPAID)
WHO: Boys and girls ages 8 to 18
WHAT: The Safe Haven West Side Basketball League was designed to give neighborhood children a safe, supervised recreational activity during the winter months. From early January to late-March, games and practices are scheduled on weekends in public school gyms located on the Upper West Side. Weekend games and practice January-March; another session begins in the spring and summer.

NASA HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS (PAID)
WHO: 9th-12th Highschool students
WHAT: NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) paid internships allow high school and college-level students to contribute to the agency’s mission to advance science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration. OSTEM internships offer students an opportunity to gain practical work experience while working side-by-side with mentors who are research scientists, engineers, and individuals from many other professions. Internships may be full time or part time; and, they may be on a NASA center or facility, or even working from your home or dorm.
