PODCAST JOURNALISM INTERNSHIP (PAID) Deadline: 11/03/24
WHO: Current NYC public or charter high school students
WHAT: Our programs train students in the fundamentals of audio journalism, including interviewing, script writing, recording, audio editing, and marketing. Interns receive mentorship from industry professionals and explore potential career paths in journalism and media. Most importantly, they report and produce stories for our Miseducation and P.S. Weekly podcasts.
Program dates and requirements:
Students must be available in person Tuesdays and Thursdays from approximately 4:15-6:15 p.m. from December through May.
The program meets at The Bell's office in lower Manhattan.
Interns should expect to do an additional 1-2 hours of work each week outside of meeting times.

GARDEN APPRENTICES PROGRAM (PAID)
WHO: Highschool Students
WHAT: The Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way for teens to learn about urban agriculture and the environment while working in one of the most exciting public gardens in the world! Apprentices can work their way up the four-tier program. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and want to work with other teens, GAP may be for you.
Apprentices make a nine-month commitment to GAP, from March to November, which includes spring training, summer programming, and a weekly commitment throughout the spring and fall.

SATURDAY EMPOWERMENT/LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR LATINA(O)(E)(X)/HISPANIC YOUTH (PAID)
WHO: Highschool Students in 10-12 grade
WHAT: The Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute, also known as PR/HYLI is a transformative civic engagement program that empowers Hispanic students to become leaders in their communities. Through PR/HYLI, students learn the intricacies of the legislative process through research, empowering them to advocate for the issues that matter most.
Through well-researched evidence, these students learn to articulate their opinions confidently. This program fosters confidence and leadership skills and provides a nurturing environment where youth can express themselves in English and Spanish authentically and professionally, surrounded by educators and leaders who share their background and language, ensuring a safe and empowering space for their growth.

BECOME AN NYC PARKS LIFEGUARD (PAID) Deadline: Ongoing
BECOME AN NYC PARKS LIFEGUARD (PAID)
WHO: Highschool Students in 10-12 grade
WHAT: Earn your whistle! Become a NYC lifeguard to help keep NYC’s beaches and pools safe and develop skills that will last a lifetime. Lifeguards develop job skills, become part of a team, practice swimming, earn NYC Lifeguard certification, and learn CRP, first-aid, and rescue techniques. Lifeguards work 5–6 days each week, and first-year lifeguards earn a minimum of $16 an hour, for a weekly salary of approximately $800.
WHERE: Work locations include the beautiful oceanfront in the Rockaways, historic Coney Island, and the only floating pool in North America!
WHEN: May through September 2025. Lifeguards work five or six days each week

FELLOWS FOR ITS EMERGING LEADERS (PAID)
WHO: High School students 15-18 who attend school or live in the Chelsea, Meatpacking District, or Hell’s Kitchen neighborhoods are invited to apply
WHAT: Friends of the High Line is accepting applications for its next class of Fellows for its Emerging Leaders, a paid fellowship for high school students who attend school near the High Line or who live in the surrounding community. There are four pathways: Arts & Culture; Civic Engagement; Horticulture; and Park & Visitor Experience. Fellows are offered up to 200 hours of paid work a year ($15/hr), building skills through learning and hands-on experiences both on the High Line and within the community.Fellows are offered up to 200 hours of paid work a year, building skills through learning and hands-on experiences on the High Line and within our community.
