WHO: Must currently be in 9 - 12th grade, identify as a young woman and/or gender-expansive youth
WHAT: Summer Institute is a paid, six-week social justice educational experience for high school students who identify as young women and gender expansive youth in NYC & Newark, NJ. We bring together dynamic young leaders like YOU to share ideas, reflect on experiences, meet amazing role models, and help transform your community through direct action. During the summer, you and your peers will take classes, meet people engaged in various careers, take workshops on issues that are important to you, and explore your own and others' leadership. All participants can receive a stipend of up to $450!
WHERE: summer Institute runs for 6 weeks at locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Newark

SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT HISTORICAL SOCIETY (PAID)
WHO: High school students entering grades 10, 11, or 12
WHAT: Student Historians are high school-aged interns who use the resources of The New York Historical to conduct in-depth research and share their scholarship through the production of creative digital projects that serve as public educational resources. Interns meet with professional staff to learn about the museum, library, digital humanities, and history fields; and work collaboratively with fellow students to develop their historical thinking, communication, and digital media skills. The program involves substantial research and writing, allowing interns to deepen their understanding of American history and the digital humanities through academically rigorous, hands-on work. The historical theme of the internship is Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass’ America.

WHO: High School Students in 11th grade
WHAT: The civic leadership project is an activism lab for Freedom and Citizenship students. Beginning in the summer, students consider the issues that matter most to them. In September they research their topics—its history, current state, possibilities for the future. In the spring, they work with their peers to take action. Some past projects have included videos, visual art, and personal narratives. Students regularly take the training they gain in the program to their colleges as campus activists.

WHEN: The civic leadership program meets about every two weeks during the academic year. Meetings typically last 2 hours and are schedule around the students' schedules.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP FOR UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS (💰PAID💰) Deadline: 04/07/25
SUMMER INTERNSHIP FOR UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS (PAID)
WHO: High School Students 16+
WHAT: The Beyond Rising Internship program focuses on workforce development, connecting UNDOCUMENTED youth aged 16-20 with employment opportunities within post-secondary campuses such as Fordham University and Lehman College. Participation in the summer internship requires a commitment of 30 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Interns will be assigned to various colleges, universities and organizations in the NYC area. Compensation for their contributions will be offered by the Oyate Group in the form of a $500 weekly stipend, provided through pre-paid debit cards.

WHEN: Beyond Rising's summer program is set to commence on Monday July 7th and will continue until Friday August 8th. The internship runs 5 weeks total.

YOUTH MEDIA PROGRAM WITH FIFA WORLD CUP (PAID)
WHO: High schoolers aged 15-17 based in Guadalajara, Toronto, New York New Jersey, or Los Angeles
WHAT: The program is an exciting opportunity to hone your skills, build a peer network, report stories and share opinions: on the human rights dimensions of sports in your community, and in connection with the FIFA World Cup 2026.
As a Youth Media Forward reporter, you will receive:
Training on reporting the human rights dimensions of sport and ensuring responsible reporting practices, across print, broadcast and online media.
Dimensions may include (but not be limited to): access and diversity, safety in sport, the impacts of major sporting events and the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders; and the working conditions for people involved in or affected by major events.
Opportunities to submit stories for publication, through partnerships with media outlets.
Interactive sessions with media industry leaders.

Freshman students played against their fellow Seniors for the first March Madness game. Both teams showed out and gave their all and made us UAG Proud!!!!

A workshop dedicated to bringing awareness to substance abuse and how to detect and prevent it.
Mr. Traversa and Lindsey took some students to an Youth Empowerement Event. Shout out to all 4 of students who read their In One Beat poem on stage, learned how to twirl a Poi flag, and volunteered a few times to help and share out thoughts.
