BROOKLYN MUSEUM TEEN NIGHT PLANNING COMMITTEE (PAID) Deadline: 09/16/24
WHO: Highschool Students between the ages of 14 and 19
WHAT: In this paid internship, New York City teens create community programming grounded in art and activism, collaborating in program design, organizing activities, and promoting young artists who are changing the world. Get paid $16 per hour. Second-year Teen Night Planning Committee members serve as leaders in the program and are paid $17 per hour. Work up to 75 hours for the year! MetroCards will be provided to support weekend and evening work.
Teen Night Planning Committee members:
Learn about the social movements and political organizing efforts affecting youth today
Meet educators, artists, and curators to learn about art, public programming, and the Brooklyn Museum’s collections
Plan, organize, and lead free, large-scale events for New York City teens
Activate social media to connect teens with art and current events
Promote Teen Night and other programs to teens across New York City, especially in Brooklyn
Connect with emerging artists and performers
Strengthen communication, collaboration, time management, organizational, and event-planning skills

WHEN: This program is open to all NYC high school students ages 14–19 and will take place in person from November 2024 through May 2025.
All Planning Committee members must be able to commit to the full work schedule:
Wednesdays: weekly meetings, 4:30–6:30 pm
Fridays and weekends: occasional teen staff events, field trips, and activities, to be determined

BROOKLYN LIBRARY BOOKMATCH TEEN PROGRAM (IN-PERSON, BROOKLYN) (UNPAID) Deadline: 09/21/24
WHO: Highschool Students between the ages of 9 and 12
WHAT: Learn the art of recommending books from librarians, book selectors, publishers and authors, and offer a readers’ advisory service exclusive to teens. Represent BPL at events and select books to be added to the Library’s collection! Program takes place weekly Wednesdays in November and December for training, followed by bimonthly meetings and live book matching at BPL events through early June. The program is in person at Brooklyn Public Library's Central Library, located at 10 Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn.

STUDENT HISTORIAN INTERNSHIP (PAID)
WHO: Applicants must be entering grades 10, 11, or 12.
Applicants must live in and attend school in the New York City metro area (includes the five boroughs of New York City, as well as areas of New York State,
Connecticut, and New Jersey).
WHAT: Student Historian interns are high school-aged students who use the resources of New-York Historical to conduct exciting research and share their scholarship through creative digital projects. Interns meet with professional staff to learn about the museum, library, digital humanities, and history fields; work collaboratively with fellow students to develop their historical thinking, communication and digital media skills; and engage in hands-on work to deepen their understanding of American history and the digital humanities. The theme of the internship is Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass’ America. Participation in this program can be used to fulfill the extracurricular requirement for the NYSED Seal of Civic Readiness. We accept 25 interns per cohort. All interns will receive a $700 stipend upon successful completion of the internship. This internship takes place in person.

WHO: New York City LGBTQ+ teens ages 14–19
Applicants must live in and attend school in the New York City metro area (includes the five boroughs of New York City, as well as areas of New York State,
Connecticut, and New Jersey).
WHAT: In this paid internship, New York City LGBTQ+ teens ages 14–19 explore gender and sexuality in art through an activist lens, and work collaboratively to organize programs for other queer and trans youth. InterseXtions teens:
Learn about LGBTQ+ social movements and artists working today
Meet educators, artists, and curators to learn about art and the Brooklyn Museum’s collections
Share readings and analyze issues of representation in art and media
Discuss topics such as feminism, sexuality, and social justice to make connections between art and our world
Create art expressing their own interpretation of these topics
Plan, organize, and promote a free, large-scale event for LGBTQ+ teens and their allies
Connect with community organizations and emerging artists and performers
Build affirming, joyful community spaces for other queer and trans youth
Strengthen communication, collaboration, critical thinking, advocacy, time management, and media literacy skills

WHAT: Our YSC is a community of like-minded high school students who want to advocate for quality climate education for current and future generations of students in New York. Students learn how to:
Take concrete action to expand access to climate education in NY schools
Work on a state-level climate education policy campaign
Help to build a network of youth dedicated to climate justice education
Communicate with educators, NGOs, policymakers, and other experts in the field
