WEILL CORNELL MEDICINE - HEALTH PROFESSIONS RECRUITMENT/EXPOSURE (UNPAID)
WHO: High school Students in 10th - 11th Grade
WHAT: The Health Profession Recruitment/Exposure Program (HPREP) was created in 1989 by Dr. Daniel Laroche, '92 when he was a medical student to increase the enrollment rate of students who faced systemic and structural barriers that reduced their access to careers in medicine and to provide participants the opportunity to interact with medical students, faculty, and health professionals. Dr. Laroche had then shared the template for the program to the national leadership of Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and thereafter it was decided that the program birthed at WCM would be replicated by SNMA chapters at other medical schools. HPREP is a ten-week program held on Friday afternoons beginning in January. High school students will hear physicians and other health professionals speak on their path and work in small groups with medical students to write a personal statement, and resume, and draft a research paper. In addition, students will participate in practical workshops discussing the college application process. All students in the 10th and 11th grade are welcomed to apply.
