WHAT: Next Generation of Hudson River Educators is a six-week summer program specifically designed to broaden the connection of high school students and the communities to the Hudson River. Our high school students first take a deep dive into the Hudson River to develop a better understanding of the historic-to-present human connection to the estuary; the dynamism of its biology, physics, chemistry, geology, and topography; and the challenges the Hudson faces along with potential community solutions.

PROJECT TRUE FIELD RESEARCH ASSISTANT (PAID)
WHO: 10th, 11th Graders in good academic standing and live in the Bronx
WHAT: What field research assistants do
Contribute to ongoing research projects that improve our understanding of NYC wildlife and green spaces.
Collaborate with Fordham University and WCS scientists.
Design and conduct an authentic research project.
Present research findings to the scientific community and the general public.
Work at the Bronx Zoo, the global headquarters of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
What field research assistants receive
Mentoring from Fordham University graduate and undergraduate students, as well as WCS educators.
For the summer, interns either receive a $750 stipend OR are paid $16/hour through SYEP if eligible to work with WCS's authorized provider.
For the fall, interns will receive a stipend of about $350.
In-depth training and direct experience in planning, conducting, and presenting research.
Assistance in applying for college and obtaining financial assistance.
Memories, friends and mentors that will last a lifetime.

WHEN: Attend all sessions in the summer (3 days a week in July and August) and fall (14 Saturdays). Please note that unexcused absences, excessive tardiness, and other attendance-related issues may result in dismissal from the program.

COLUMBIA SUMMER ENGINEERING & SOCIAL SCIENCE PROGRAM (PAID)
WHO: 11th-grade high-school students (rising seniors) from Harlem and the surrounding area
WHAT: The My Streetscape Summer Research Institute is an interdisciplinary education program on urban technology and trust organized by the the Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3), in partnership with the Trust Collaboratory at Columbia University and the Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) at Florida Atlantic University. High school students from New York City and Palm Beach County, FL can apply for this CS3 cohort as part of the Columbia Engineering E.N.G. program to hone their interests in engineering and the social sciences, regardless of their level of experience or knowledge.
What to Expect:
Conduct engineering and social science research with Columbia University faculty and graduate students
Develop AI tools, improve your coding and data science skills, learn about computer vision and Internet of Things (IoT), explore transportation engineering and urban mobility applications
Investigate how tech can shape urban life in Harlem with a focus on trust, safety, privacy, and community needs
Potential presentation to city officials to impact NYC streetscapes and research paper publication
Stipend provided: $15/hour at 25 hours/week

WHAT: The New York Historical offers a robust suite of digital humanities programs for high school students year-round in the Tech Commons. These Tech Scholars programs center the student-led creation of digital projects, including podcasts, websites, and digital games. Tech Scholars research artists, historical figures, and events that continue to impact and inspire young people today, work collaboratively with their peers, develop their digital media skills and meet with professional staff to learn about the museum, digital humanities, history, and tech fields.
