WHAT: Sound+Science is an innovative after-school program, research lab, and community in NYC for high school students interested in exploring the unique and deep connection between music, science, and technology. Through a unique curriculum, participants will explore modules like ‘The Hidden Codes in Electronic Music’, ‘From Hip-Hop to AI’, and Music Improvisation and the Evolution of the Mathematics of Computation Sound+Science, revealing the profound connections between music, technology, physics and mathematics. Participants can look forward to Masterclass Lectures, where industry experts shed light on the confluence of music and technology and the Studio Labs, which provide a hands-on environment for participants to apply their knowledge, fostering creativity and collaboration. Sound+Science will also offer a challenging and supportive environment that pairs high school students with local college STEM majors as they work together on Incentive-based projects designed to challenge and motivate participants to create real-world applications that resonate with musicians, producers, and coders while facilitating knowledge exchange and mutual growth.

WHO: After school opportunity for identifying young women and gender expansive youth from 9 - 12th grade
WHAT: A year-round paid afterschool and summer fellowship program for high school students who have a professional interest in theatre (no prior experience necessary,) and an interest in using theatre as a tool for building community and advocating for people and places in their city. Through weekly in-person and virtual meetings, field trips, guest speakers, attending live theatre productions and professional development opportunities. Participants in the Urban Explorers Theatre Fellowship program will learn about a variety of theatre techniques in devising and writing original pieces from documentary to site-specific to forum theatre playwriting. The program will culminate with the creation of original work. Explorers will each receive a stipend of $300 for successfully participating in Semester 1, and a stipend of $500 for participating in Semester 2 (summer program), for a total of $800 if they participate in both semesters. Additionally, the program will provide academic career counseling and professional development, individualized mentorship, college and job recommendation letters, and a certificate of program completion. The program will also provide opportunities for fellows to prepare for entrance into additional theatre arts programs and collegiate programs.

The Teen Reading Ambassadors (TRA) position will be assigned to one of NYPL’s drop-in after-school homework help and enrichment programs at local branch libraries in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Teen Reading Ambassadors will be provided with pre-work and ongoing training that will allow them to serve as high-quality academic tutors at their site, with a focus on developing literacy skills and a love of reading in children ages 6–12. Ambassadors will also have the opportunity to support the production of Portal, a literary magazine for younger children.

WHAT: The Health Profession Recruitment/Exposure Program (HPREP) was created in 1989 by Dr. Daniel Laroche, '92 when he was a medical student to increase the enrollment rate of students who faced systemic and structural barriers that reduced their access to careers in medicine and to provide participants the opportunity to interact with medical students, faculty, and health professionals. Dr. Laroche had then shared the template for the program to the national leadership of Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and thereafter it was decided that the program birthed at WCM would be replicated by SNMA chapters at other medical schools. HPREP is a ten-week program held on Friday afternoons beginning in January. High school students will hear physicians and other health professionals speak on their path and work in small groups with medical students to write a personal statement, and resume, and draft a research paper. In addition, students will participate in practical workshops discussing the college application process. All students in the 10th and 11th grade are welcomed to apply.

WHAT: The Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS) is a free summer educational experience for high school sophomores and juniors. TASS prepares and inspires promising young students to lead and serve through transformative educational experiences rooted in critical thinking and democratic community. Telluride Association covers all program costs for every student, including tuition, books, room and board, field trips, and facilities fees. At TASS, you will improve your reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills as you explore your interests in and out of the classroom. In order to encourage students in their love of learning, the program does not assign grades. You will also learn about and explore topics and ideas within history, politics, literature, art, and other disciplines. WHAT: The Baruch College STEM Research Academy is a two-semester program aimed at NYC public high school students. Initially, during the spring semester, you will be enrolled in a college-credit research methods course designed to equip you with the essential tools of scientific inquiry. This includes formulating research questions, designing experiments, performing literature searches, and critically engaging with scientific literature, all aimed at preparing you for the expectations and rigor of working in a research lab environment.
Successful completion of this course, with at least a grade of C, paves the way for a hands-on, six-week summer research experience under the guidance of CUNY research faculty, where you can choose to dive into a research internship. The program's objectives are centered on developing a profound understanding of the nature of science, acquainting students with the culture of scientific research, and enhancing literacy skills critical for success in science. This culminates in a team-based presentation of your research findings at the CUNY STEM Research Exhibition and the NYC Science Research Mentoring Consortium Summer Symposium.

The program provides interns with diverse internship experiences along with career mentoring.
