WHO: New York City youth who are ages 15-20 in summer 2025
WHAT: Join a group of 10-12 young people who will explore making change in Youth Communication’s 46th annual summer writing workshop. You will participate in writing lessons, discussions, field trips, and group activities. You will write memoir-style and reported stories about making change.
WHERE: The workshop will be held in person at our midtown office on West 38th Street
WHEN: July 7 through August 14, 2025. The workshop meets Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the six weeks, and in-person attendance is required.

WHO: High schoolers aged 14-21
WHAT: Folk Culture is the study of the art, rituals and traditions that permeate our everyday lives. Whether it’s about style, food, music, stories, hobbies or beliefs, interns in the Community Folk Culture Program celebrate our heritage – learning from our past and present to understand our similarities and appreciate our differences. In this program, student interns learn how to interview, videotape, and present folk artists from the community, create blogs, photos, videos, and a portfolio of their work.
Through this special paid internship opportunity, interns will:
Have research and interview techniques
Practice photo and video documentation and editing skills
Develop archiving and document-preservation skills
Practice public speaking and multimedia presentation skills
Learn about and meet talented artists and community leaders
Participants will receive a stipend upon the successful completion of the 5-week internship program. The full stipend (between $625 - $750) is based on interns' attendance, participation, punctuality, and completion of all assignments. Applications must be submitted by by 11:59pm on April 30th. Attach any related video clips when prompted in the application. Upon the review of submitted applications, finalists will be invited to participate in an interview. Decisions regarding acceptance into the program will be announced by June 3rd.

WHEN: The summer program runs for 5 weeks, from July 8th through August 8th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am – 3:30pm (students MUST attend 3 days per week)

ARTSLIFE, RECESS I & II INTENSIVE PROGRAM AND TEEN COUNCIL @ THE MUSEUM OF ART AND DESIGN (PAID)
WHO: Rising sophomores and juniors
WHAT: Artslife is a paid summer internship program for rising sophomores and juniors enrolled in New York City public and charter high schools that combines art and design with leadership training, museum studies, and community engagement. Participants are introduced to careers in all sectors of the museum: Curatorial, Education, Development, Communications and Marketing, Visitor Services, Security, and Registrar. The first week of Artslife is dedicated to team bonding and introducing the interns to the Museum. During the remaining five weeks, participants work on collaborative projects with Museum staff, local designers, and arts professionals who act as mentors. Artslife interns enjoy firsthand experience and the broadest possible exposure to ongoing museum activities, both public facing and behind the scenes.
Artslife Interns: Learn about careers in the arts. Build career readiness. Create artwork with local and visiting artists in the Artist Studios. Create a podcast series based on a topic of the interns' choosing. Develop and lead peer-to-peer tours. Build and strengthen presentation, communication, and public speaking skills. Visit other cultural institutions in New York City. Earn $16 an hour and receive an unlimited MetroCard for the duration of the internship.

WHO: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Graders with good academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 80 overall, and an 80 or above in both math and science courses
WHAT: The summer programs are four-weeks long and take place every day from Monday through Thursday through the month of July. Students enroll in just one course for the month so they can study more in-depth on a particular topic. The program will conclude with the annual showcase to present posters and projects.

WHAT: STNYC empowers young people as they explore how to turn their passion for music into a possible profession in New York City's thriving music industry. Building leadership skills in the music industry is a core part of this summer program. This includes hands-on activities in music production and field trips to venues and sound production studios.
